Leandro De Niro Rodriguez, the 19-year-old grandson of Robert De Niro, has passed away

Robert De Niro’s grandson Leandro De Niro Rodriguez passed away at the age of 19. His mother, Drena De Niro, shared the news on Instagram on Monday.

I don’t know how to live without you, but I’ll try to carry on and share the love and light that you so generously made me experience in becoming your mother. “I wish that love alone could have saved you. You were so deeply loved and appreciated.”

Carlos Mare, the father of Leandro, posted blank black squares to his Instagram accounts. “I’m heartbroken by the loss of my cherished grandson Leo. Thank you very much for your condolences, everyone. In a statement, Robert De Niro pleaded for seclusion so that the family and friends of Leo could mourn in peace.

There was no instant availability of more information. Another statement from Drena De Niro was published by De Niro’s spokeswoman later on Monday.

“We bid our dear son Leo farewell with unimaginable shock and anguish. In the statement, she expressed gratitude for the outpouring of support and asked for some privacy to absorb her unbearable grief.

When asked to corroborate a TMZ claim that Leandro was discovered in a New York apartment, New York City police responded that “an 18-year-old male was found unconscious, unresponsive and was pronounced deceased by EMS on scene” at a Wall Street location that is home to the Cipriani Club Residences. Leandro recently turned 19, according to press sources.

The cause of death will be determined by the medical examiner’s office.

The oldest of Robert De Niro’s now seven children is Drena De Niro, 51; the 79-year-old father had a baby earlier this year. When the actor wed her mother, Diahnne Abbott, his first wife, they adopted her. Drena De Niro has a strong resume as an actor, including parts in “Joy,” “The Intern,” and “Mozart in the Jungle.”

Leandro also had acting experience, appearing in three films with his mother, including “The Collection” from 2005, “Cabaret Maxime,” from 2018, and “A Star Is Born.” The mother and son who played the mother and son in Bradley Cooper’s version of Dave Chappelle’s character’s wife and child.
