Government introduced a new mobile app that enables farmers to self-enroll for the PM Kisan Yojana by utilizing face recognition technology

The national government recently unveiled a new service that enables farmers who are beneficiaries of the PM Kisan Yojana to complete the e-KYC process by merely scanning their face. This new function was announced by Union Minister of Agriculture Narendra Tomar as part of the government’s effort to guarantee that all beneficiary farmers complete their e-KYC.

E-Kyc is required for benefitting farmers.

According to the Central government, beneficiary farmers must complete e-KYC. To be eligible for funds under the PM Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana, they must swiftly finish their e-KYC. The installment may not be paid to a farmer if they have not finished their e-KYC. However, many farmers have not finished their e-KYC to this point due to the onerous requirements.

Up until recently, the only options for e-KYC verification were the OTP or fingerprint options. Farmers who work physically demanding jobs that have caused their fingerprints to become deformed or fading may find this challenging. Now that customers have access to the new face scanning feature, they can easily finish the e-KYC process.

What Is the Process of Face Recognition?

The PM Kisan mobile app now has face recognition functionality. It enables users to finish the e-KYC procedure by using the iris data from their Aadhaar number.

PM Kisan Yojana: What is it?

Farmers who participate in the PM Kisan Yojana earn Rs 6,000 in three annual installments straight into their Aadhaar-linked bank accounts, making it one of the largest Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) programmes in the world. A total payment of Rs 2.42 lakh crore has been given to more than 11 crore farmers, including more than 3 crore women.

Even during the COVID-19 lockdown, farmers were able to rely on the PM Kisan Yojana because it offered them direct cash support and inspired confidence. Through the use of digital public goods, the plan has successfully addressed issues with Aadhaar authentication and updating bank account information on the PM Kisan Portal.

It is an incredible accomplishment that for the first time, over 8.1 crore farmers successfully received the 13th installment of PM Kisan straight into their Aadhaar-linked bank accounts through Aadhaar Enabled Payment. The Google Play Store makes it simple to download the new software, which has a user-friendly interface. It gives farmers crucial information on the scheme and PM Kisan accounts. Using the No User Status Module, farmers can also check the status of land seeding, Aadhaar connection with bank accounts, and e-KYC.

Additionally, the department has worked with India Post Payment Bank (IPPB) to help beneficiaries open Aadhaar-linked bank accounts at their homes. Additionally, the department has advised Common Service Centres (CSCs) to host village-level e-KYC camps with the support of the appropriate States/UTs.
