After nearly eight years of marriage, Sofia Vergara and Joe Manganiello have announced their divorce, according to reports on Monday.
“We have made the difficult decision to divorce,” the two actors said in a joint statement to Page Six. “As two very devoted and caring individuals, we kindly request respect for our privacy at this time as we move through this new stage of our lives.”
The Times’ request for response was not immediately answered by Vergara’s or Manganiello’s agents.
Vergara, 51, and Manganiello, 46, dated for a short time after meeting at a White House Correspondents’ Dinner in 2014. Later that year, on Christmas Day, he made his proposal. The couple wed in a grandiose, celebrity-studded ceremony in Palm Beach, Florida, in November 2015.
People reports that since the pair relisted their Beverly Hills property, which they had previously taken from the market last summer, there have been rumours that they are divorcing. (They also possess a Beverly Park residence.)
Vergara celebrated her 51st birthday last week in Italy and shared pictures and videos of herself with her loved ones. Manganiello, though, was conspicuously missing.
Happy birthday, Sofia! The “Magic Mike” and “True Blood” star posted a fuzzy photo of himself and Vergara on social media to mark the occasion. The post’s comments received feedback that something sounded strange.
The “Modern Family” actor was engaged to businessman Nick Loeb just before Vergara and Manganiello crossed paths. But after dating for four years, the couple broke up that May. Vergara revealed that the couple’s relationship deteriorated as a result of their inability to make time for one another in the midst of their demanding work commitments.
Later, Loeb filed a lawsuit against Vergara seeking custody of the couple’s two 2013-born embryos, which Vergara ultimately prevailed in 2021.
